Our Ethos & Mission

At Theatr Adlais CIC, we believe that creativity belongs to everyone. We are a community-focused theatre company based in Wales. Our name—Adlais, which means "Echo" in Welsh—reflects exactly what we do: we listen to the stories of our communities and echo them back through powerful, meaningful performances.

Our mission is to break down the barriers that stop people from accessing the arts. We focus on supporting people who are often left out, underrepresented, or isolated. This includes multi-lingual groups, migrants, Global Majority communities, young people, and anyone facing financial hardship, unemployment, or homelessness. We use theatre to bring people together, help individuals heal, and build real empathy between different groups.

We achieve this through three main areas of work:

Creative Workshops & Wellbeing

We run welcoming theatre workshops for young people, vulnerable adults, and diverse community groups. These sessions are about much more than acting—they help people build everyday skills like teamwork, creative thinking, and confidence. Our workshops are designed to reduce loneliness, improve mental health, and give people a safe space to feel good about themselves.

Professional Theatre & Real Stories

We create high-quality professional theatre, including traditional plays, lively street theatre, and performances in unusual local spaces. Our shows tour all over Wales, visiting village halls and rural areas. We put real-life challenges and triumphs on stage. By sharing these authentic stories, we challenge negative stereotypes, help people understand each other better, and provide fair-wage jobs for local Welsh actors and crew.

Community Projects - (Made by You)

We don't believe theatre is just for "professionals." We run projects where local people take the lead to write, create, and perform their own shows. Working on a long-term project builds huge personal pride and great public speaking skills. Plus, when an audience watches a show made entirely by their own neighbours, it creates a powerful bond within the community.

Ultimately, Theatr Adlais wants to make the arts a shared right rather than an expensive luxury. We use the power of storytelling to bridge social divides and tackle loneliness. No matter your background, your language, or your bank balance, we want to ensure you have the power to speak, the right to be heard, and a place where you truly belong.
